Cannon School Athletics Partners with Shaw Sports Turf
Concord, North Carolina (PRWEB) August 04, 2015 -- Cannon School has installed their first synthetic turf field and selected Shaw Sports Turf as the manufacturer and provider.
Cannon School, established in 1969, is a private independent junior kindergarten through 12th grade college-preparatory institution. It attracts more than 950 students from Concord, Davidson, Cornelius, Huntersville, Mooresville, Charlotte, the University City area, Kannapolis, and Salisbury. Cannon School seeks to prepare students for a world that promises to be unpredictable.
However, the Cannon School athletic department does not want playing fields that are unpredictable.
For the athletic department at Cannon, they wanted a playing surface that could withstand the heavy year-round football, soccer, and lacrosse usage. The previous field was not used for practices in order to keep the field looking as good as possible.
The school also wanted a surface that was usable after a heavy rain so that teams could still practice and play.
Cannon estimated that the maintenance and resurfacing cost of the new Shaw Sports Turf field will be comparable to the cost of traditional grass surface maintenance.
Medallion Athletic Products, Inc. proposed Shaw Sports Turf as the manufacturer and provider to Cannon. The school then contacted many references regarding Shaw Sports Turf, all of whom reportedly love their surface and Shaw Sports Turf’s customer support.
The Cannon community is very excited about the new surface. The buzz about the field from students and families has already created a new and fun atmosphere around campus.
Randy Marion was the lead donor for the project and has always been a very generous supporter of Cannon School. The field will be named Randy Marion Field.
“Athletically, we are excited about the additional field time that the new Shaw Sports Turf field will provide for our teams,” said Cannon Director of Athletics, Patrick Moyer. “The beautiful Randy Marion Field will be the centerpiece of our facilities, which we believe are second-to- none.”
The activities to be played on the new Shaw Sports Turf field will be football, girls’ and boys’ soccer, and boys’ lacrosse.
The first event on the field will be the Cannon boys’ varsity soccer team vs. Greensboro Day at 4:15 p.m. The first varsity football game will be on August 28.
"I'm glad we were able to partner with the Cannon School on the Randy Marion Field renovation,” said Shaw Sports Turf Territory Manager, Andrew Barksdale. “We've had this in the works for a while and I'm happy it finally came to fruition. Medallion Athletic Products did a great job helping us with the execution of the project. I'm confident the new Shaw Legion turf will help Cannon reach their goals as a school and achieve more."
The field will feature Shaw Sports Turf’s Legion system.
Legion features a combination of high-performance monofilament fiber with the most durable slit film fiber. The result? The best of both worlds. An amazingly soft and resilient playing surface with the performance and durability needed for multi-use fields.
