Hotels: Saratoga Springs Ranks as Second Most Expensive U.S. Destination

Saratoga Springs, an affluent resort town in the upstate Albany, New York region, is the nation’s second most expensive summer destination. A recent survey conducted by positioned Saratoga Springs number two among all U.S. locales considered.

The survey by specifically compared all travel destinations in the United States based on the average price of their cheapest available double room. The month of August served as the basis of comparison. Because the cheapest available double room was used as a benchmark, the rates reflected by the survey indicate the minimum price an overnight guest will have to spend to lodge at a certain destination. The survey excluded those hotels with less than a 3-star rating and those that are not either centrally located or primely situated near the beach.

In Saratoga Springs, late summer travelers will have to pay an average of $312 nightly for the least expensive double room. Only Montauk, part of the Hamptons on the eastern end of Long Island, is slightly more expensive.

Martha’s Vineyard, an island located eight miles off the Cape Cod peninsula in Massachusetts, rounds out the Top 3 with an average price of $284 per night for the most affordable double room. Boston is the only city that made it into the Top 10. It ranks eighth most expensive overall on the survey with an average cost of $233 nightly.

The following table shows the 10 most expensive locales in North America this late summer. The prices shown reflect the average rate for each destination's cheapest available double room for the time period spanning August 1–31, 2015.
