Humboldt Merchant Services Supports Organizations Dedicated to Ending Human Trafficking
Eureka, Calif. (PRWEB) August 10, 2015 -- Humboldt Merchant Services (HBMS), a leading, best-in-class credit card processor and MSP/ISO for over 20 years, has announced its support of two world-class organizations that are dedicated to the eradication of human trafficking and sex slavery. These organizations, Operation Underground Railroad (OUR) and Vista Maria, help to rescue women and children in dire situations around the world, and provide at-risk girls with the services they need to make better choices:
• Operation Underground Railroad – Working with local police and foreign governments, OUR’s “Jump Teams” (rescue teams) travel around the world to liberate kidnapped children who are often trafficked as sex and labor slaves. To date, OUR, which is based in Anaheim, Calif., has rescued over 265 children and made over 50 arrests of traffickers. The non-profit organization recently merged with the Elizabeth Smart Foundation, which is helping to expand OUR’s reach, and both organization’s prevention and rehabilitation efforts.
• Vista Maria – Based in Dearborn Heights, Mich., Vista Maria was founded 130 years ago by the Sisters of the Good Shepherd as an orphanage. Today Vista Maria helps women and girls regain their self-worth and dignity, and become self-sufficient through a variety of on-campus and community-based programs. Its showcase annual event, the Dolly Drive, collects new dolls or stuffed animals for young women and children in Vista Maria’s programs, including those who were rescued from the bondage of human trafficking.
“Human trafficking is a real and devastating problem in the United States today, with some estimates stating there are over 100,000 children nationwide in the multi-billion dollar sex trade industry alone,” said Adam McDonald, President of Humboldt Merchant Services. “Humboldt is dedicated to doing what it can to help reduce that number by supporting organizations like Operation Underground Railroad, which helps to rescue children and young women from this lifestyle. Humboldt also supports Vista Maria which is a place of care, treatment and education for victims of sex trafficking.”
Vista Maria’s annual Dolly Drive will take place on August 20, 2015 at Blackfinn Brewpub in Royal Oak, Mich. For tickets and more information, visit http://www.vistamaria.org/events/dollydrive.
