Leadership of National Military Family Support Nonprofit Operation Homefront to Meet in OKC for First Time
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (PRWEB) August 11, 2015 -- Operation Homefront, the national nonprofit that offers short-term assistance, long-term stability, and periodic support programs to assist the families of service members, veterans, and wounded warriors, today announced that its national Board of Directors will meet in Oklahoma City for the first time.
The Board’s agenda includes a reception on the evening of Sept. 21 at the Pavilion at the Governor’s Mansion, where leading figures from Oklahoma’s business, military, and government communities will discuss critical issues facing military families today. Expected attendees include U.S. Senator James Lankford, Lieutenant Governor Todd Lamb, and U.S. Representative Tom Cole.
The 18-member governing body meets quarterly, often in cities with a strong military presence, which makes Oklahoma City a natural fit, according to President and CEO John I. Pray, Jr.
“Operation Homefront has been proud to serve Oklahoma military families for many years,” Pray said. “Holding our board meeting in Oklahoma City gives us the opportunity to meet face-to-face with civic and corporate leaders here who support our men and women in uniform, and to show them how we share their unflagging commitment to these amazing families.”
Operation Homefront’s steadfast support of military families in Oklahoma includes:
- More than 100 military families given emergency financial assistance in the last two years, with the average grant of assistance exceeding $500 per family.
- Provided more than $100,000 to Oklahoma military families affected by tornados in 2013.
- Three mortgage-free homes matched to Oklahoma military families – including one this week in Broken Arrow – with two more scheduled for later this year.
- Backpacks filled with school supplies provided to 750 military kids this year.
Highlighting the importance of the military in the area, two members of the Board are Oklahomans: Major General Lee Baxter, USA, Ret., and Michael Carnuccio, President & CEO of the Liberty Foundation of America.
