No matter the problem, something can be done about it.

This week, at the request of local police, Volunteer Ministers from the Church of Scientology Kaohsiung organized a seminar to train police and staff in simple Scientology techniques that were used in helping victims of Taiwan’s devastating 2014 gas explosion.

It was exactly a year ago on July 31, 2014, when a gas explosion rocked Kaohsiung, killing 32 and injuring more than 300. Scientology Volunteer Ministers showed how valuable their services are by providing disaster relief to local residents and first responders.

As soon as they felt the blast, Scientology Volunteer Ministers donned their signature yellow T-shirts and headed for the disaster zone. Learning of a shelter set up at Kaohsiung Chung-Cheng Industrial High School, they immediately got to work distributing supplies. The high school fast became the haven for those with injuries as well as temporary shelter for local residents until electricity and water were restored.

Once the most pressing physical needs were handled and first aid was administered, the Volunteer Ministers set up their tables and began providing Scientology assists, techniques developed by Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard that help the individual recover from the mental and spiritual stress that comes with illness and injury. They helped the injured and those who simply felt disoriented or anxious because of the shock of the incident.

They also helped police and firefighters suffering from fatigue from long days of stress-filled work under pressure to save lives threatened by the tragedy. Their work helped restore the spirit of the first responders, enabling them to return to the disaster site refreshed and more energetic.

It was these same techniques—assist—that the Volunteer Ministers covered in their police training session this week.

The officers found they were easy to learn and use. Literally anyone can learn to perform a simple assist and use it to help people on an immediate basis.

Scientology Assists for Illness and Injuries is one of 19 free courses offered on the Scientology Volunteer Ministers website. Anyone may log on and learn to use these techniques under the guidance of trained Volunteer Ministers who supervise the courses.
