Inaugural C.O.P.S. Fallen Officers’ Memorial Invitational Bass Tournament in Shreveport-Bossier to be held at Red River South Marina, Sept. 17-19
Bossier City, LA (PRWEB) August 14, 2015 -- The Louisiana State Chapter of Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.) will host the Inaugural Fallen Officers’ Memorial Invitational Bass Tournament at Red River South Marina in Bossier City, Sept. 17-19. The tournament, initially scheduled to take place in March, has been postponed twice due to Red River conditions in March and May. Team registration is now open at http://www.la-cops.org. The tournament will raise funds to offset the ongoing cost involved in rebuilding the shattered lives of families and co-workers who have suffered from line of duty deaths in law enforcement. Any officer in any phase of law enforcement, active or retired, can extend an invitation to anyone he or she feels would like to support and fish the tournament.
“We’ve had more than 60 boats register to date, and we’ll be accepting registrations at Red River South Marina until 5 p.m. on Sept. 17, as well,” event organizer Harry Watson said.
This family-friendly event is open to the general public as well as the families of law enforcement, their friends, neighbors, extended family and business associates. Some local jurisdictions will provide law enforcement awareness programs and demonstrations during the event and there will be activities for spectators to enjoy, including kid-friendly contests including a fishing tank, dunk tank and balloon burst on Friday and Saturday at Red River South Marina. There will also be a special memorial program honoring fallen officers on Friday morning beginning at 5 a.m.
“On that Friday morning when the anglers take off, we’ll have about 70 memorial flags with fallen officers’ names on them displayed,” Watson said, adding that there will also be a memorial fly-over by regional police helicopters.
Registration fees are $200 per two-man team and registration is limited to the first 300 boats. To register, visit http://www.la-cops.org or make all entry fees payable to LA-COPS and mail to: LA-COPS, 6713 SageWind Drive, Shreveport, LA 71119.
