Wake Forest, NC (PRWEB) August 18, 2015 -- WCPE’s Music Director William Woltz announces a celebration of Women’s Equality Day, August 26, 2015. The event honors female composers, conductors and performers commemorating the passage of the 19th Amendment giving women the right to vote.
“The day actually commemorates the passage of voting rights for women, but it’s a great occasion for us to feature women in Classical music,” says Woltz. “We will feature composers such as Cecile Chaminade, Clara Schumann, Barbara Harbach, Jennifer Higdon, Joan Tower, Amy Beach and Ethel Smyth (who was jailed for a time for her women’s suffrage activities in England).”
Here is a partial list of the day’s celebration:
9:00 a.m. Farrenc: Nonetto in E-flat
10:00 a.m. Chaminade: Sonata
12:00 p.m. Higdon: “Amazing Grace”
3:00 p.m. C. Schumann: Piano Concerto in A Minor
7:00 p.m. Harbach: Jubilee Symphony
8:00 p.m. Tower: Made in America
9:00 p.m. Higdon: Blue Cathedral
10:00 p.m. Beach: Piano Quintet in F-sharp Minor
“This is a great opportunity to feature women in Classical music,” he continues.
