Prestwick Country Club Is Among America's Best Pete Dye Courses, Says Golf Advisor
Myrtle Beach, South Carolina (PRWEB) August 20, 2015 -- Prestwick Country Club in Myrtle Beach, S.C., is among the Top 10 U.S. golf course designs by celebrated architect Pete Dye, according to Golf Advisor. The leading source of golf course ratings and reviews done by golfers for golfers, Golf Advisor places Prestwick at number five on the Top 10 list of designs by Dye, who is considered one of the most influential course architects of the past 50 years.
Opened for play in 1989, the award-winning Prestwick was designed collaboratively by Pete Dye and son, P.B. Dye. Golf Digest named it “one of the 5 Best Kept Secret Golf Courses In America” in 2004, the same year that the South Carolina Panel of Golf Course Raters named it one of the “30 Best You Can Play In S.C.” for the first time. In 2014, that Panel ranked Prestwick among the state's 50 best layouts alongside the renowned Ocean Course at Kiawah and Harbour Town Golf Links in Hilton Head.
At 7086 yards from the back tees, with a rating of 74.7 and slope of 138, Prestwick can be a formidable test of golf for the game's best-skilled players. However, it is extremely playable for golfers of all levels from any of its six sets of tees. The centerpiece of the course is a beautiful 10-acre lake, and water comes into play on eight holes. Many of Prestwick's fairways are tree-lined, while others feature dramatic mounds or berms, pot bunkers, and Dye's signature railroad-tie-lined hazards.
Designed to remind players of its Scottish namesake, Prestwick Golf Club, Prestwick Country Club is owned and operated by The Jackson Companies of Myrtle Beach.
