At Recovery Unplugged® “Music Makes The Difference”
Fort Lauderdale, FL (PRWEB) August 20, 2015 -- Recovery Unplugged® Treatment Center, the Florida drug rehab facility that uses a unique, individualized, music-based rehabilitation approach will mark its second anniversary this October and today announced that after 18 months of operation, 160 of the 400 addicts who have completed its Florida drug rehab program are still sober. This performance far exceeds the national average for relapse over the period, and researchers are now studying the Recovery Unplugged model and recidivism rate. The result of this research is scheduled for release by year-end.
Recovery Unplugged’s Director of Creative Recovery and famed singer/songwriter Richie Supa gave an explanation as to why the Recovery Unplugged program is having such success. “We combine traditional and cognitive behavioral rehabilitation approaches with music as a catalyst for making the changes necessary for long- term recovery and sobriety. The beautiful thing about Recovery Unplugged is that it has been developed for every addict, not only musicians. You don’t need to know how to play the guitar or sing to come to our program.”
Supa has written over 500 songs and has five solo albums to his name. He’s also had a career on Broadway where he had the lead role in the hit musical "HAIR." Artists who have cut his songs include Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, Ozzy Osborne, Mika, Pink, Johnny Winter, Tom Jones, Air Supply, Glen Campbell, and Willie Nelson, among others, and his music has been included on albums that have sold over 50 million records. “Using music at the core of our Florida drug rehab program offers an emotional connection to the soul. When we work with addicts using music, it breaks down defenses and facilitates, motivates and inspires a life change.”
The challenge with typical talk-based drug treatment programs is that eventually patients have to leave and rely on relapse prevention protocols based on health and legal warnings. When patients leave Recovery Unplugged, they leave with the musical “recovery triggers” they’ve created. The music helps them learn to communicate emotionally.
Overall, the Recovery Unplugged program is designed to adapt to individual needs. Although addicts tend to have much in common, people’s fundamental differences can be overlooked in some treatment environments. Recovery Unplugged works to establish a better understanding of the individual and his or her needs for a full recovery. Clients engage in day or night treatment with community housing, intensive outpatient programming, and specialized aftercare for sober living.
