Orion Engineered Carbons will be featured at the inaugural ITEC in Focus: “Testing Innovations” Conference in Akron, Ohio, on September 16 and 17, 2015. ITEC in Focus conferences will address new information and technical opportunities for specific areas of the tire manufacturing industry in between the major biennial International Tire and Exhibition Conferences.
Orion Engineered Carbons will present a paper Reinforcing Filler for Truck Tires highlighting the role of innovative Carbon Blacks in reducing rolling resistance and improving tread compound performance in truck tires.
“Ever more stringent regulatory requirements for truck tires place challenges on manufacturers to meet end user performance expectations,” says Lin Bradley, Orion Technical Market Manager – Rubber, who will present on September 16. Bradley will discuss the differing demands between original equipment and replacement truck tire markets, including the benefits of various aggregate size distribution (ASD) Carbon Blacks.
Bradley will detail how ASD has “a significant, quantifiable impact on truck tread compound performance.” He will review the performance of newly-developed Carbon Black grades with narrow ASD versus ASTM grades and highlight the performance enhancements they impart to truck tires in the replacement market.
Looking ahead to the International Elastomer Conference in October, Orion will introduce to the U.S. its ECORAX® S 204 and ECORAX® S 206 Rubber Carbon Blacks. These grades are targeted for new generations of tire designs to help meet the increased EPA fuel economy targets for passenger cars and the SmartWay technology program for trucks.
