GUARDaHEART Foundation Helps Ventura County Veterans Fight Heart Disease
Irvine, CA (PRWEB) August 20, 2015 -- The GUARDaHEART Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to eradicating heart disease through education, detection and prevention, focused their efforts on American Heroes at the Military & Veteran Expo, hosted by the Ventura County Military Collaborative, this past Saturday, August 15th.
GUARDaHEART has a long history of working with veterans and teams to provide specific education and detection tools that serve members of the military and their families.
“Our mission is certainly to fight disease worldwide, but we dedicate special teams and efforts to our American heroes,” said Jerry Nostadt, President of GUARDaHEART, and a recipient of the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart during his service with the US Army in Vietnam, “PTSD and the stress of active duty are both linked to impaired cardiac function and the increased risk of coronary heart disease. We want to do everything we can to ensure the men and women who have served our country do not suffer from a preventable heart attack.”
The evidence linking PTSD to coronary heart disease (CHD) is substantial. Veterans with PTSD are significantly more likely to have abnormal electrocardiograph results, myocardial infarctions, and atrioventricular conduction deficits than are veterans without PTSD.
The Military & Veteran Expo saw over 2,000 military, veterans and their families – many of whom were able to benefit from important health information and preventive cardiac testing with the PULs Cardiac Test. The PULs test, which stands for Protein Unstable Lesion Signature, identifies early-stage heart disease and determines the likelihood of a cardiac event - even in patients who may otherwise have no signs or symptoms of disease (asymptomatic patients). The information provided by the PULs test can be used to help prevent heart attacks and save lives.
