Children with autism in South Central Los Angeles have not always received the services they deserve. AST wants to lead the way in changing the future course for these kids and their community - so more families have access to the services they need.

These families have been left to fend for themselves without proper treatment, and in some cases without a diagnosis, for too long.

Autism Spectrum Therapies (AST), one of the leading national providers of interventions for children with autism, will now offer services to families in South Central Los Angeles under a newly created Medi-Cal program. Families eligible for Medi-Cal can now receive ABA services from AST in their homes and improve the outlook for their children affected by autism.

Rob Haupt, AST's Head of Contracts and Partnerships, says his team is committed to helping LA’s Medi-Cal families navigate the process. “These families have been left to fend for themselves without proper treatment, and in some cases without a diagnosis, for too long. I know parents who have been beating down doors of legislators for years to gain access to the care they need. We want to help make the process as easy as possible.”

The prevalence of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) has increased from 1 in 150 to 1 in 68 in the last 15 years. ASD occurs in all racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic groups yet there continues to be a discrepancy in diagnosis and access to care for minority groups and low income families.
Recent changes to Medi-Cal established that the State of California intends to provide behavioral health treatment for individuals under the age of 21. This means that Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is finally available for children with autism on Medi-Cal.

Autism Spectrum Therapies is committed to making a difference for families in South Central Los Angeles and assisting families in accessing the care they need. AST was on the forefront of assisting California families with insurance coverage for care following the SB96 mandate of 2012. Their insurance specialists have made the approval process easier for families as well as positioning AST as one of the largest in-network providers of ABA in the nation.

AST’s Medi-Cal team can be reached at (657) 900-5962 for a free consultation on what steps families need to take to gain ABA service.
