Forward-Thinking Yuma Districts Select WANRack to Provide Future-Proofed 10 Gigabit Network Infrastructure Serving Nearly 20,000 Students

WANRack announced today the signing of a long term lease agreement to provide an advanced 10 Gigabit fiber optic Wide Area Network (WAN) connecting 25 sites across two school districts in the city of Yuma, Arizona.

The 22 mile private fiber network, to be constructed by WANRack, will support both districts’ ambitious digital learning initiatives while providing unlimited capacity for future expansion. Nearly 20,000 students and staff in Yuma Union High School District and Yuma Elementary School District One and will benefit from the high speed infrastructure.

“Private WANs provide superior, virtually unlimited bandwidth without the bottlenecks or the security and reliability concerns that plague users of shared public networks,” said Rob Oyler, WANRack President. “Many districts don’t realize that this approach is an extremely affordable and superior alternative to telephone and cable company service. We are thrilled to be building a network infrastructure in Yuma that will meet the current and future needs for these forward-thinking districts.”

The WANRack solution will provide a minimum of ten times the speed of the districts’ current network, at a significant reduction in the overall cost of service. It will easily meet the bandwidth demands of the districts’ ambitious digital learning initiatives, which include a 1:1 computing initiative that puts a device in the hands of every student.

“WANRack provided the best solution at the best price, allowing us to achieve incredible throughput at a lower cost and ultimately, to provide a superior educational experience,” said Dean Farar, Director of Technology for the Yuma Educational Technology Consortium, which jointly supports both school districts. “We will be supporting close to 20,000 individual devices and our network will never be a hindrance to the educational process.”
