VeloComputer Magnet-less Smart Sensor Receives the Eurobike Award for Design and Innovation
Friedrichshafen, Germany (PRWEB) August 27, 2015 -- SoundOfMotion Technologies Inc. of Vancouver, CANADA received a recognition award from Eurobike show in Friedrichshafen, Germany for its innovative magnet-less VeloComputer Smart Sensor for bicycles. VeloComputer Smart Sensor supports Bluetooth Smart and ANT+ wireless technology and requires no magnets to measure speed or cadence. Bluetooth is used in smartphones, like Android, iPhone and new generation of smart watches. ANT+ is used primarily by Garmin in sport watches and cycling monitors.
When mounted on a wheel hub VeloComputer Smart Sensor can detect forward and reverse wheel motion with 1-inch, 25mm precision. It is 100 times more accurate than any traditional cycling speed sensor. This precision reduces data latency and allows accurate calculation of spot speed and acceleration. The sensor attaches to a wheel hub with a simple snap-over mount without any tools. It is powered by a standard coin cell battery.
“Cyclists have to adjust a magnet on a spoke after transporting the bike or changing wheels,” said founder Vlad Savchenko. “Mountain bikers often strip off the magnets or sensors when riding through a bush. Traditional speed sensors use a magnet to count wheel revolutions. This gives only 7 feet (2 meters) precision in distance measurement.”
When the sensor is mounted on a crank it measures cadence as well as the crank position and angular acceleration. This data can be used to detect backpedaling when cyclist resists its own pedaling effort by inadvertently pushing on a pedal in a recovery position.
The sensor can also measure position of any revolving object with high degree of accuracy. Using electronic compass the sensor accurately tracks the position of the North Pole and translates its orientation in space into useful data. The sensor is capable of detecting its 3D position in space relative to the North Pole. This patent-pending technology works reliably anywhere on the Earth except maybe on the North or South Pole.
The sensor supports standard Bluetooth Smart and ANT+ speed and cadence profiles as well as the new high precision REVolution profile.
VeloComputer offers a software developer kit (SDK) for developers to create new use cases for VeloComputer Smart Sensor using high precision REVolution profile. Developers can use SDK to measure various motion with the sensor: running, swinging, swimming or jumping.
The new VeloComputer Smart Sensor can be pre-ordered at VeloComputer.com for USD$35. The retail price of the sensor is $49.95. The cost of SDK is $199.
