New centrifuge and fermentor expand product development capacity at Vets Plus
Menomonie, Wis. (PRWEB) August 25, 2015 -- Vets Plus, Inc. recently installed a new centrifuge and fermentor at its research facility in Knapp, Wis. The company has added a AS16 Sharples centrifuge to harvest products after fermentation. The addition of a Biostat C15 Fermentor allows detailed data collection during bacterial or fungal fermentation process development.
The new centrifuge greatly expands production capabilities for Vets Plus by increasing the volume of continuous liquid-solid separation. Dr. Milind Deshpande, director of microbiology and bioactives at Vets Plus, said, “We can separate any two phase liquids or bacterial cultures to be used as probiotics. This centrifuge plays a crucial role in our ability to increase the production capacity and generate concentrated products as needed.”
On a smaller scale, the addition of the new fermentor will be used in product and process development. Researchers can now gather a greater range of data about the growth of bacterial or probiotic cultures. Dr. Mitali Raval, research director at Vets Plus, noted, “Our ability to analyze and control the collection of data on probiotic cultures will allow us to develop new innovative products for our customers. We can conduct a lot of research in-house, ensuring the consistency of quality of our products from the research and development stage to the production floor.”
Vets Plus has made continuous process improvements to manufacture the highest quality supplements and treats, demonstrated by the company’s Safe Quality Food (SQF) level 3 certification and status as a National Animal Supplement Council (NASC) preferred supplier. Raj Lall, president and CEO said, “Continual investment in equipment for research and development is also an investment in quality. The introduction of a new centrifuge and fermentor will help us maintain our commitment of producing quality products and exceed our partners’ expectations.”
