Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital and OnBase by Hyland Awarded Don Walker Award
Cleveland, Ohio (PRWEB) August 26, 2015 -- The Health Informatics Society of Australia (HISA) awarded the Don Walker Award for Efficiency to Lorna Green, lead customer advocate at Hyland, creator of OnBase, and Dr. Johan Waktare, cardiologist and chief clinical information officer at the Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital (LHCH), at the annual Health Informatics Conference.
The Don Walker Award for Efficiency recognizes organizations from around the world for reducing the unit cost of diagnostics and treatment, improving administrative processes and improving throughput.
Waktare’s abstract, “Mapping Your Journey to Paperless Care,” shares how healthcare organizations must re-imagine processes to not only improve the way we deliver care, but to improve quality, safety and efficiency. Using the HIMSS EMR Adoption Model (EMRAM) as a strategic roadmap, the model determines how a healthcare organization is maturing in the use of their IT systems.
The journey began with a 15-month implementation phase of the Allscripts electronic medical record (EMR) and the OnBase enterprise content management(ECM) solution earning the Trust a three-way tie for 1st on the Clinical Digital Maturity Index (CDMI) ranking. The CDMI is an important benchmarking tool that the National Health Service uses to rank hospitals on their effective use of information technology to improve patient safety and outcomes. The powerful combination of the EMR and an ECM solution empowers doctors and clinicians with up-to-the-minute information to support decision making. With paper removed, the Trust was able to easily share information and immediately deliver patient content to improve process performance, quality of care and patient safety, similar to EMRAM.
This marks the second year that the Don Walker was awarded for the use of OnBase. Cathy Fuhrman and Sharp Healthcare were presented with the Don Walker Award in 2014 for deploying OnBase in the claims department and expanding the solution across the entire organization. Sharp Healthcare integrated ECM with its EMR and other core applications to ensure that critical patient information was available to clinicians and staff where and when they needed it, significantly improving its ability to deliver quality patient care while controlling costs.
“Lorna and Dr. Waktare exemplify the type of leadership we need in the healthcare industry,” said Susan deCathelineau, vice president of healthcare sales and services, Hyland, creator of OnBase. “Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital has an inspiring vision for using technology to improve performance and streamline processes across the organization, resulting in better patient care.”
