StayWell announces all health content is ICD-10 ready
Yardley, Penn. (PRWEB) August 27, 2015 -- StayWell, a leading provider of patient education and engagement solutions, confirmed today that its Krames Patient Education content is ICD-10 ready and available to all clients. All Krames Patient Education content has been tagged and is ready for the new ICD-10 code sets, which are more targeted and return a more comprehensive data set of content than the ICD-9 codes, allowing for better-coordinated patient care across providers and over time. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has set October 1, 2015 as the compliance date for the health care industry transition to ICD-10.
In preparation for the ICD-10 changes, in 2011 StayWell teamed with 3M Health Information Systems, the recognized market leader in terminology management and coding solutions for interoperability, to ensure its content was extensively coded to meet ICD-10 standards. The company now has more than 1 million ICD-10 coding relationships added to its Krames Patient Education Healthsheets™, videos and articles.
“StayWell customers can now leverage the specificity of ICD-10 to extend and enhance the reach of StayWell’s extensive patient health content,” said Hank Kwan, business manager, Clinical Terminology for 3M Health Information Systems. “By mapping StayWell’s content to standard terminologies like ICD-10, we can bring even greater value to the patient education process while helping StayWell’s clients avoid any slowdowns during the ICD-10 transition.”
ICD-10’s greater specificity in coding for diagnosis and procedures enables quicker identification of patients with chronic disease conditions such as asthma, diabetes and heart disease. In addition, it better supports patient encounters with granular data that drives precise, relevant content for a variety of health care topics, supporting more informed decision-making at the point of care and providing improved quality and efficacy of care.
“StayWell stands by its commitment to deliver the highest quality solutions to our clients and the patients and consumers that they serve,” said Elna Hamp, StayWell EVP and president of its Patient Education Solutions business unit. “ICD-10 compliance supports our goal to provide information that is evidence-based, accurate and up-to-date — elevating care quality, driving better health outcomes and improving workflow efficiencies.”
In addition to ICD-10, 3M has mapped StayWell’s patient education content to standard terminologies such as SNOMED CT, LOINC, and RxNorm. StayWell will continue to work with 3M to maintain and update its current health education content and to code the hundreds of new content assets it delivers each year.
