Being prepared before a hazardous situation occurs increases our ability to maximize safety, reduce damage and minimize injury.

Blackmon Mooring and BMS CAT, leaders in cleaning, restoration and reconstruction services, are participating in September’s National Preparedness Month with the launch of the “Be Disaster Aware, Take Action to Prepare” initiative to help educate communities about the importance of having an emergency preparedness plan in place. National Preparedness Month is an annual awareness event sponsored by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

“As a specialist in disaster recovery, we are on the front lines of devastating disasters of all shapes and sizes,” said Tom Head, president of Blackmon Mooring and BMS CAT. “Being prepared before a hazardous situation occurs increases our ability to maximize safety, reduce damage and minimize injury. We urge everyone to take action now by making plans with their families, schools, businesses, and communities.”

The “Be Disaster Aware, Take Action to Prepare” initiative provides important information, tips, checklists and preparedness toolkits for numerous disasters, including winter storms, tornados, floods, hurricanes, and earthquakes. These free resources are available at http://www.blackmonmooring.com/prepare, where individuals also can register for a chance to win one of 15 Prepare Prize Packs that include a $100 Visa gift card and a Deluxe Emergency Preparedness Kit from the American Red Cross. The winners will be selected on September 30, 2015 as part of America’s PrepareAthon! Day.

According to FEMA’s 2012 National Survey, 46 percent of respondents believed that a natural disaster will occur in their community; however, nearly 70 percent of Americans have not participated in a preparedness drill or exercise in their home, school, or workplace in the past two years.

National Preparedness Month and America’s PrepareAthon! Day are part of a national, grassroots campaign for action to increase individual and community preparedness and resilience through hazard-specific drills, group discussions and exercises for hazards relevant to their area.

Blackmon Mooring and BMS CAT specialize in disaster restoration, cleanup and repair services for both commercial and residential customers.
