TAMPA BAY, FL (PRWEB) August 29, 2015
TiEcon 2015, the annual entrepreneurship conference hosted by TiE Tampa Bay, has announced that it will feature a panel of some of Florida’s leading technology journalists debating the media’s role in building a local startup culture.
“Media can play a big role in documenting real progress, and challenges, in emerging entrepreneurial ecosystems,” said Nancy Dahlberg, who hosts the Starting Gate blog for the Miami Herald. The panel, titled “Tough Love – The Role of the Media in Nurturing a Startup Ecosystem,” will also feature Sarah Perez of TechCrunch, Alexis Muelner, Editor of the Tampa Bay Business Journal, and Brian Burns, Publisher of the Tampa Tribune.
“The panel should give aspiring entrepreneurs insight into the subtleties of how – and when – to seek media coverage. It will also be a chance for the members of the media to connect directly with entrepreneurs in our area and exchange perspectives,” said Ashok Kartham, current president of TiE Tampa Bay.
“This media discussion-panel has been on my mind for a while,” said TiEcon Florida program chair and incoming president Ramesh Sambasivan. “It is critical for entrepreneurs to have stories of their milestones and successes heard around the world in a universal language, while still staying true to local culture.”
Sambasivan also emphasized the conference’s ethos of education, openness and accessibility.
“All of our speakers and panelists are here because they care about what they’re doing, and about the community we’re all a part of,” said Sambasivan. “The media have a very important role to play in Florida’s entrepreneurial ecosystem as it spreads its wings, and this is a chance for everyone to get on the same page – so to speak.”
TiEcon Florida 2015 takes place from 7:30am until 8pm on Saturday, October 3rd, at the Westin Harbor Island in downtown Tampa. Other scheduled events include a startup pitch contest, networking, entertainment and dinner, and panels on topics including life-sciences, innovation and seeking funding in Florida.
