Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation to Hold Educational Class About Asbestos and Mesothelioma Prevention
Ambler, PA (PRWEB) August 29, 2015 -- On Saturday, September 19, 2015, Diane Blackburn-Zambetti, the Director of Policy and Prevention Education at the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation (Meso Foundation) will present an educational program titled “Asbestos and Your Health.”
The two and one half hour program starts at 7:00 PM and lasts through 9:30 PM (doors open at 6:45pm) at Calvary United Methodist Church, 16 E Park Ave., Ambler, PA 19002.
This program will discuss anatomy, six types of asbestos, asbestos products, asbestos in the environment, asbestos diseases, symptoms, treatment options, prevention and proper communication with healthcare providers. She will also discuss asbestos containing materials in homes, the importance of proper material testing and hiring certified professionals.
“The citizens of Ambler face many decisions that will affect their own and their children’s health well into the future,” said Ms. Blackburn-Zambetti.
“My goal is to provide unbiased, reliable scientific information about asbestos, as well as disease prevention, that they can use to make informed decisions,” she added.
Ambler has a long history with asbestos, dating back to 1875 when a parcel of land was the home to an asbestos insulation factory. When disturbed, asbestos particles become airborne and are easily inhaled. No amount of exposure is deemed safe.
Mesothelioma is a malignant tumor most often affecting the lining of the lung or abdomen. Most cases of the disease are known to be caused by exposure to asbestos. With an average life expectancy of 4 – 14 months, medical experts consider mesothelioma as one of the most aggressive and deadly cancer. Current treatment options provide only limited effectiveness.
