Opening Address for the New UvA-IBFD Advanced Master’s in International Tax Law: Principles, Policy and Practice
Amsterdam (PRWEB) September 02, 2015 -- The ceremony started with an opening speech by Professor Edgar Du Perron, Dean of Law at the UvA, followed by Professor Dr Stef van Weeghel, also from the UvA and Chairman of the IBFD Board of Trustees, who endorsed the LLM on behalf of IBFD. Afterwards, Professor John Prebble from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand, gave the opening lecture titled “Kelsen, the Principle of Exclusion of Contradictions, and General Anti-Avoidance Rules in Tax Law”.
The advanced LLM programme was created to meet the growing demand for specialists in international tax law policy development. Students will receive a thorough grounding in the theoretical and practical issues of international tax law. Uniquely, the programme considers the policy options most appropriate to states according to their level of development. Optional courses allow students to give their study a regional focus.
The students of the first academic year (2015-2016) come from all corners of the globe (including China, Colombia, Ethiopia, Finland, India, Malaysia and the United States), which truly reveals the international character and reach of the programme.
