Apply to Reynolds Business Journalism Week
PHOENIX, Ariz. (PRWEB) September 02, 2015 -- Applications are now open for the 2016 Reynolds Business Journalism Week, the annual business journalism training seminar hosted by the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University.
The seminar, sponsored by the Donald W. Reynolds National Center for Business Journalism, will take place Jan. 3-6, 2016, at the Cronkite School on ASU’s Downtown Phoenix campus.
Twenty-four participants will be competitively selected for four days of training on where to find economic angles in stories, how to cover money on any beat and the nuances of covering business and finance.
“Money is the world’s No. 1 story,” said Elizabeth Mays, assistant director of the Reynolds Center. “Even if your title is not ‘business journalist,’ chances are you’re covering money on your beat. This seminar by the Reynolds Center will help you do it better.”
This year’s conference will include sessions on incorporating economic and census data into stories, building business investigations and covering business in your community. Special topics are tentatively slated to include campaign finance, the money in sports, the economics of immigration and the business of marijuana.
Both professional journalists and journalism educators will be part of the sessions. In addition, reporters will have time to workshop story ideas, and educators will learn how to build a business journalism class and syllabus.
The Donald W. Reynolds Foundation provides generous support for Reynolds Week. Each participant is funded by a fellowship valued at $1,500. Tuition, hotel and most meals are provided. Fellows (or their companies) are expected only to provide travel to and from the training.
Applicants must submit a statement of interest and a letter of support from their supervising editor or dean.
