Teeth whitening has been around for thousands of years, starting with the Egyptians using pumice stone and vinegar. The Romans tried human urine believing the ammonia would whiten. Luckily, it’s a little easier to improve the shade of your smile today.
Teeth whitening is safe and easy with the guidance of a dental professional. There are other methods of teeth whitening on the market today: rinses, toothpastes, gels, paint on films, strips, on-line kits, and chewing gum. All of these products claim to provide some whitening effect but unfortunately, they do not always give the desired result. Other whitening methods in non-dental retail settings do not provide the safety that a trained dental professional can provide. Salons, mall kiosks and even cruise ships currently offer teeth whitening procedures but they have not received the proper education and experience to make whitening a safe and effective procedure.
"At Avenue Dental Caloundra we provide two types of professional teeth whitening, Zoom in office teeth whitening and take home teeth whitening trays" says Dr Stephen Dudgeon owner of Avenue Dental Caloundra
Zoom In Office Teeth Whitening
Zoom is a light activated whitening system that uses a LED light to accelerate the hydrogen peroxide whitening product for maximum results in little time. The gums are carefully protected with a covering before a dental professional applies the whitening gel. The gel breaks down the molecular bonds making up the stains on and in the teeth. The appointment is easy and relaxing, sit back and watch a favourite movie while the zoom light helps to improve the colour of your teeth. Zoom will get teeth as white as they can go naturally (without the need for porcelain veneers).
Take Home Teeth Whitening Trays
Its starts with an easy 15-minute appointment to take impressions of your teeth. Our efficient in office lab will create a duplicate of your teeth from the impression. Then a tray is created from the model that fits your teeth perfectly. With the whitening gel you wear the trays for up to an hour a day for a week to fourteen days. The trays are reusable for future touch ups. The whitening gel breaks down into water and oxygen ions. The ions enter the enamel and attack the stain by breaking them down into short and colourless molecules that are then naturally removed from the tooth by saliva.
