"Reborn" - Leukemia Cured in Seven Months
Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida (PRWEB) September 03, 2015 -- Author Jeff Davidson recalls his journey at forty-nine years old, from diagnosis of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia to Stem Cell Transplant to his amazingly speedy cure of this horrific disease.
Every bright future starts with a past, and at The Davidson Leukemia Foundation http://www.tdlf.org, they are working every day to try to ensure that adult patients and their families affected by leukemia and other blood cancers are receiving the support they need to give them the greatest hopes at a bright future.
But where did this mission all begin? The answer lies within one man - founder Jeff Davidson, who discovered his passion and drive to make a difference in the lives of adult leukemia patients with his own diagnosis. After being admitted to the hospital on May 12th, 2014, Jeff was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (A.L.L.) assumed to have been active within his body for only 7-10 days. As early on as this may seem, doctors informed him that if they hadn’t caught the illness when they did, within a matter of weeks this may have warranted a death sentence. Treatment at the Mayo Clinic, Jacksonville began within 12 hours of his hospitalization and after twenty-eight days of an intensive hospital stay, Jeff was in remission and permitted to go home in between consolidation treatments in preparation for his full Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT).
He was lucky that he called home a quiet suburb just thirty minutes from the Mayo Clinic, but this bout with an unimaginable and completely unexpected illness got his mind turning. What if he hadn’t lived so nearby? What if he had to travel from hundreds of miles away to receive proper care and treatment? How would his family have felt being so far away in such a time of need? How would he have handled it without them? There were so many questions, too many, and unfortunately, this is too frequently a reality for dozens of adult patients afflicted with leukemia and blood cancers every year. It became clear to Jeff that after having successfully battled A.L.L. with the support of his family and his incredible team of doctors, providing an answer and a solution to those questions was going to be his mission in this miraculous second chance at life. And thus, The Davidson Leukemia Foundation was born with the goal of improving the quality of life for adults diagnosed with leukemia and other blood cancers and offering support and resources to their families.
The book “Reborn” documents Jeff’s journey and contains journal entries describing his emotions and feelings. The book is about strength, love, determination and faith getting him through this journey. From diagnosis to his ultimate survival.
