SunGard’s Global Code-a-thon to Tackle Big Data and Analytics at Camp Nou
New York, NY (PRWEB) September 02, 2015 -- From September 8 to September 10, 2015, 11 teams from five countries will compete in the championship round of SunGard’s Global Coder Cup ’15, a financial technology code-a-thon, to be held at FC Barcelona’s Camp Nou stadium.
At the event the finalists will be given 48 hours to design and implement a product that utilizes big data tools, and analytics, to create innovative and actionable technologies and solutions, with an applicability to either internal or client-facing financial systems. A judging panel comprised of SunGard’s chief technology officer and industry experts from Intel and BBVA CIB will decide the winning solution. The competition is sponsored by Intel.
Jeffery Paul, Intel’s vice president, sales and marketing group, and director, software and services sales organisation, said, “SunGard’s Global Coder Cup offers a unique opportunity for talented technologists from around the world to work together to develop industry-changing solutions in incredibly short time frames. The Code-a-thon format is an excellent platform for encouraging and cultivating innovation. Intel has a long-standing history of partnering with the financial services sector to deliver new technologies to address new challenges and regulations and to seize new opportunities.”
“The leaders of the financial services industry are challenged to grow revenue while reducing operational costs and managing the ever-changing regulatory environment. This year’s Coder Cup is about harnessing the power of data for the adaptive enterprise. Bigger, faster data alone is no longer enough for companies. Today, the focus needs to be on smarter data; the streamlining of the collection and aggregation of the data to enhance business operations in a more customized manner,” commented Steve Silberstein, SunGard’s chief technology officer.
“By developing smarter solutions, we can help our customers focus on their client-facing initiatives and grow their businesses. SunGard’s third annual Coder Cup demonstrates our continued commitment to innovation and building new technologies that can benefit the financial services industry globally, and help keep our clients ahead of the game,” continued Mr. Silberstein.
The 11 finalists were selected from a preliminary group of 68 teams, over 300 individuals, which participated in regional elimination events in June. The teams hail from Christchurch, New Zealand; Pune, India; Birmingham, Alabama; New York, New York; Cape Town, South Africa and Shanghai, China and consist of over 50 SunGard technologists and engineers whose expertise cuts across the entire financial services landscape.
Last year the winning team, Foo Tomatons from Birmingham, Alabama, created an advanced financial compliance and regulation application that uses artificial intelligence to predict and potentially prevent fraud.
