We chose a partner who understood product differentiation obstacles and is willing to support innovation and product expansion.

storelocal, the self storage industry’s first and largest nationwide cooperative, announced today a partnership with York, PA based storsmart insurance to provide tenant insurance for storelocal’s co-op members. This co-branded offering will enable storelocal’s members to protect customers’ property with a best in class sales and service product.

storelocal evaluated insurance companies both inside and outside the self storage industry before ultimately selecting storsmart. “We went to the market and evaluated insurance services and found very little differentiation. We chose a partner who understood those product differentiation obstacles and is willing to support innovation and product expansion,” said storelocal CEO Lance Watkins. storsmart’s reputation for integrity also played a major factor in storelocal’s decision to enter into the partnership.

This partnership’s goal is to build a conservative insurance product that protects all interests and withstands any test brought by changing market conditions.

“Our current strong insurance industry partners and high rate of growth in the marketplace combined with storelocal’s vision of the future is a great combination for the future evolution of the tenant protection model,” said storsmart insurance President Mike Rhoads. “We are pleased to form a strategic partnership with storelocal. As our industry continues to mature and change with the times, strategic alliances will be more important than ever to ensure relevance in the marketplace. The power of the cooperative will enable us to continue to improve the consumer experience and member satisfaction.”

The co-op and its partners own a reservation system with insurance integration, mobile functionality and, by the end of the year, desktop integration. storelocal has already started building sales tools including a video insurance guide for its members to help facilitate sales.

storelocal and storsmart will also continue to improve product penetration through automation and integration within the consumer experience, whether it’s at the point of sale, on a mobile device or otherwise.
