Trent D. Pendley, a fine jeweler, writer, gardener and collector of fine arts, has completed his first book “Toys in the Closet”: a gripping and potent tale of ancestry and departed love.
When asked about his inspiration for the book, Pendley stated “Having collected our extended family history and vignettes for decades and faced with our branch becoming extinct, I decided to throw the stories into a fiction and also create a contemporary American Midwestern Jewish novel. ‘Toys in the Closet’ isn’t an immigrant nor Holocaust story but one deeply rooted on the American continent and also in the Indiana Dunes Country.”
Published by New York City-based Page Publishing, Trent D. Pendley’s poignant tale is a riveting and sumptuous read. The gorgeously crafted characters and plot are sure to have readers captivated from start to finish. All the while, the book serves as a reminder of the many ways that the past can ripple out to touch the present.
“Toys in the Closet” is a historical fiction set in the sensuous singing sands of the Indiana dunes on the southern shores of Lake Michigan. This is the journey of Nathan Franklin whose family participated in the most vicious confrontation between environmentalists and industrialist over the Hoosier coast.
Nathan, a Jewish writer is out-of-season visiting his beach home, on Christmas Day ‘97 and exploring the story book rooms of Brighton House, a repository of so many works of art by artists who have painted the dunes and a treasury of family heirlooms each with vignettes of a landed past. Nathan though lonesome on Christmas in the aftermath of a winter blizzard realizes he isn’t alone at all surrounded by his treasures and a very protecting lost lover.
Readers who wish to experience this mesmerizing work can purchase “Toys in the Closet” at bookstores everywhere, or online at the Apple iTunes store, Amazon, Google Play or Barnes and Noble.
