Center for Discovery Set to Open Only Residential Treatment Center in Texas for Adolescents with Eating Disorders
Dallas, TX (PRWEB) September 08, 2015 -- Center for Discovery, a national leader in eating disorder treatment, is set to open Texas’ only residential treatment center for adolescents with eating disorders this month. The new facility will be located in the North Dallas area.
It is estimated that 10 million females and 1 million males suffer from anorexia and bulimia in the United States, with millions more struggling with binge eating and other compulsive eating disorders. The National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) also reports that more than half of teenage girls and one-third of teenage boys use unhealthy means to control their weight.
“We are pleased to bring our exceptional residential eating disorder treatment services to the state of Texas,” said Mark Hobbins, President and COO of Center for Discovery. “We have assembled a first-class team of professionals to help adolescent girls and boys succeed in the treatment and recovery of one of this nation’s most pervasive health issues.”
Hobbins added that “this new program will complement our recently opened intensive outpatient program in Houston.”
Previously, families would have to search out-of-state to seek residential eating disorder treatment for their teens. The new Center for Discovery program will provide a warm residential setting with a maximum of eight teens in order to provide the most effective individualized attention. Family involvement will be encouraged with group therapy, family therapy, therapeutic family meals, and online resources to keep them connected throughout treatment.
In addition to intensive therapy, teens will participate in a unique hands-on dietary program that builds confidence in the kitchen and self-reliance for real world situations.
The program will be led by Delisa Deutsch, MS, LPC-S, who has been specializing in the treatment of eating disorders for nearly 10 years. Joining Deutsch are Registered Dietician Jean Sullivan and Program Therapist Aimee Howarth, MA, LPC-I, both from the Dallas area.
