Opening Day at PA's First Private Gifted School
Broomall, PA (PRWEB) September 06, 2015 -- The Grayson School invites you to attend our ribbon-cutting ceremony on our opening day of school. As a K-6 grade independent school, Grayson will be opening on September 8, 2015 at 35 N. Malin Rd., Broomall. The ribbon cutting ceremony will follow at 12:30p, with PA State Representative William Adolph in attendance.
The Grayson School is the first private school in the state of Pennsylvania specifically designed to meet the unique needs of gifted children and their families. Currently there are 12 students enrolled ranging in age from 5-11 years old. The program is based on current research in gifted education, and will aim to meet the individual needs of students at their ability in each core content area. The intent of the program is to allow each student the opportunity to develop his or her potential, and to challenge students at their level to allow them to progress at their own accelerated rate. This is the approach described in A Nation Empowered, the recent ten-year follow-up to the seminal research work on acceleration, A Nation Deceived.
Dr. Ann Lupkowski Shoplik, one of the co-authors of this most recent work and a member of the Grayson Research Advisory Board, shared that, “the goals of the Grayson School mirror the ideal situation described in A Nation Empowered.”
Programming is largely funded by tuition and private donations. Grayson will be accepting applications this year on a rolling basis. For more information, or to apply visit our website at http://www.TheGraysonSchool.org.
The Grayson School will also be hosting a screening of the film Most Likely to Succeed by Greg Whiteley at the Roxy Theater in downtown Philadelphia on September 28, 2015. This film is a documentary about rethinking the current education system that is in place in the United States, and what may be more effective ways for students to learn. Doors will open at 6:30, and film will begin at 7p with a panel to follow after. To learn more and to purchase tickets, please visit: http://bit.ly/TGSMostLikelyToSucceed
