Alexander Scourby was the first ever to record the Bible on long play records in 1940, and to this very day he is still regarded as the Voice of the Bible. The Chicago wrote that “Alexander has the greatest voice ever recorded and is the best audio book narrator bar none”.
Beginning in 1979, Litchfield was the first to sell the Scourby Bible recordings on cassette tapes via TV Direct Response starting in 1979. In 1991 Litchfield Associates bought all rights, title and interest in the property from the estate of Alexander Scourby.
As technology advance onto CD Discs, DVD’s and Mp3 discs, the company kept on the cutting edge of technology and produced “the work” in those formats. With the advent of digital downloads in 2004, the company was the first to offer customers the scourby narration as an audio Bible in an Mp3 digital download format for personal computers, mp3 players and Ipods.
When Apple introduced their iPhone in 2005 and subsequent application software was developed to run on the iPhone, once again the company was the first to offer a Scourby Bible App for the iPhone. When other smart phones came out using Android software, the company was the first to develope an App for the Android OS as well. Rob Reece the project director for Litchfield said, “The Scourby You Bible App is the greatest advancement since the invention of the Gutenberg Press in 1440”. Reece continued, “With patent pending features such as hands free self scrolling, with text being read highlighted in yellow, You Bible is truly the Newest Way to Access the Oldest Book”. “The You Bible app also has a powerful custom playlist that permits users to create an unlimited number of playlists either by verse, multiple verses, book or Chapter at a time”. “The Bible App will then play back the playlist in order with text and audio synced together. No other app can do that”. Many users like to create sleep time verses to bedtime. Another popular feature is the ability to loop a verse for Bible memorization.
