Chitina, Alaska (PRWEB) September 09, 2015
With the popularity of all things Alaska, an opportunity has been presented which offers everyone a chance to own a piece of this majestic corner of the world. Through the numerous popular television reality shows, people throughout the world have enjoyed watching the amazing lives Alaskans face daily.
The life lived by the contest sponsors rivals some of the most popular reality shows on the air. The sponsors purchased the raw land on a hand shake in the summer of 1994. They cleared the land by hand, with the final leveling being done by the original owner in a 1940 era bulldozer. The original building plans were done on graph paper, sitting next the hand made barrel wood stove, in a makeshift shelter the winter of 1995. In the spring of 1996, a local saw mill delivered the 8" tongue and groove milled logs for the main cabin and 2 guest cabins. With the help from friends, the contest sponsors built their cabins by hand over the next 8 years. The sponsors first years on the property were spent living a subsistence lifestyle eating wild game and vegetables from the garden. Hauling water from the creek for dishes, laundry and cooking. Many of the appliances most people consider antiques, were actually put to good use. Though those days make some of the best memories and stories, the property now is in the modern age, with running water, a compost toilet and all the amenities.
As with all things in life, change is inevitable. The contest sponsors have health issues that require them to move closer to advanced medical care. Rather than selling the property in rural Alaska outright, they have chosen to join in the stream of people, offering property as a prize to the winner of an essay contest and to open the door for someone else to live their dream. "We are hoping to pay it forward and offer someone else a chance to build and improve on our Alaskan Dream". The cost of relocating from Alaska into the modern world are high, the sponsors hope to gather enough through the contest to relocate, purchase another home, put their son through college, cover medical expenses as well as semi retire. After the taxes and contest fees are covered this would be a viable option if the contest is a success.
Entrants have the opportunity to win the grand prize of a Log Cabin on 5.6 acres, along the world Famous Copper River in Chitina, Alaska by submitting a 500 - 1,000 word or less essay and a $200 entry fee. The grand prize property includes a two story log cabin, 2 finished guest cabins, 1 unfinished log cabin and a bunkhouse. The property has been successfully run as an adventure tourism business for the past two decades. An added bonus is the property is located in an unincorporated region which means there are currently no property taxes, no state income tax and no sales tax in the region.
Unlike other contests out there, the owners are asking the public readers and viewers to log on through the campaign link and help vote for the winner. The essay with the most votes at the close of the contest will win the grand prize.
