Prevent Blindness, the nation's leading volunteer eye health and safety organization dedicated to fighting blindness and saving sight, has chosen Mrs. Laura Bush, former First Lady of the United States, as the recipient of the 2015 Prevent Blindness Person of Vision Award. The award will be presented at the Prevent Blindness Person of Vision Dinner on Nov. 5 at the Drake Hotel in Chicago.
The Prevent Blindness Person of Vision Award recognizes an individual for outstanding leadership and dedication in the field of vision and eye health. Bush has been a longtime champion of children’s literacy and she is an advocate for the importance of healthy eyesight to help a child succeed in school and beyond.
The chairperson of the 2015 Prevent Blindness Person of Vision Committee is Mary Blankenship Pointer, Chair, Prevent Blindness Finance Committee. Individual tickets for the event may be purchased for $500 or $5,000 for a table of 10. Event sponsorships are also available.
“Prevent Blindness began more than 100 years ago as a non-profit group dedicated to protecting the eyesight of children,” said Hugh R. Parry, president and CEO of Prevent Blindness. “Today, with leaders such as Former First Lady Bush, we continue that legacy of providing resources that save sight and promote healthy vision across the lifespan. We want to honor her for her tireless efforts to improve the lives of our children through enriching literacy and educational programs and advocating for vision care to be part of the strategy.”
