If we want to get serious about increasing the number of times precast is chosen for a project, then we have to educate our future industry leaders while they are in college, said Dean Gwin, President, COO of Gate Precast.

Throughout September, Gate Precast will participate in the PCI Foundation’s National BBQ Competition at all eight of its plant locations. The competitions serve as an opportunity to support and promote the Foundation and its goal to foster educational and research initiatives focused on the integrated and sustainable use of precast concrete.

Dean Gwin, Gate president and COO, said the PCI Foundation plays a critical role in the future of the precast industry, and the BBQ events serve as a vehicle for raising money and awareness. Gwin, a member of the PCI Foundation Board of Trustees, is a driving force in the effort to educate architecture and engineering students about precast concrete construction.

“If we want to get serious about increasing the number of times precast is chosen for a project, then we have to educate our future industry leaders while they are in college,” he said. “If we don't do it, then others will.” During the September BBQ events, Gate will compete for a grand prize drawing, as well as a variety of other prizes.

The mission of the PCI Foundation is to foster educational and research initiatives focused on innovative approaches to the integrated and sustainable use of precast concrete design, fabrication, and construction. It is a charitable 501(c) 3 corporation that supports the inclusion of precast concrete programs at accredited college and universities throughout the US.
