Western singing institution Sons of the Pioneers (http://www.sonsofthepioneers.org/) has hired champion fiddler Justin Branum (http://www.mytalentforge.com/teacher-profiles/justin-branum-swing-fiddle/) for their upcoming tour dates beginning in August. The group, one of the earliest and longest-lasting Western singing groups in the United States, and a 1976 inductee into the Country Music Hall of Fame, has helped to inspire numerous Western performers. In 1977, the Smithsonian Institution named the group a “National Treasure,” and they boast two Grammy Awards, most recently in 2002 for their song “Tumbling Tumbleweeds.”

“The group has been in existence since 1934,” said Branum, “and some of my favorite fiddlers like Hugh Farr and Dale Morris have held the fiddle spot. It's an honor to play with them, and I look forward to performing what represents some of the best and most classic of American music.”

Branum, the 2010 Grand Master Fiddler Champion, is a music educator and frequent performer. An adjunct professor of jazz violin at Webster University, he is currently a member of Swing DeVille, Colonel Ford, The Palominos, and has recorded for Son Volt and Pokey LaFarge. He also operates a private music studio in Nashville, TN, and teaches online lessons at [my] Talent Forge (http://www.mytalentforge.com/). His slated tour with Sons of the Pioneers includes several performances in both Canada and the US.

[my] Talent Forge is an online music school born out of the idea that technology can create access to quality music instruction for people who wouldn’t otherwise have it. Whether the lack of access could be because of financial, or logistical reasons, [my] Talent Forge exists to overcome these barriers. To be a teacher on my Talent Forge is to love music, and to love sharing music in an excellent fashion.
