AUSTIN, TEXAS (PRWEB) September 22, 2015
There’s a district in Austin that the locals refer to as ‘78704’ or ‘SoCo’ that is home to some of the most hip hotels, restaurants and boutiques in town. Joining the South Congress scene on October 8, 2015 is a new art gallery called 78704 Gallery. The new gallery sits on the third floor of the ‘04’ shopping complex that is also home to Kendra Scott, Perla’s Seafood and By George.
The gallery will offer visitors and locals the chance to view and purchase artworks from some of Texas’ most well-known artists as well as regional, national and international luminaries. Founder and Curator, Matt Wayne, says “Austin has long been known as the ‘Live Music Capital of the World’. 78704 Gallery wants to do its part to continue to grow, cultivate and amplify the local art scene and help make Austin known as the ‘Visual Arts Capital of the World’ too. We think honoring Texas legend and local Austin artist Bob ‘Daddy-O’ Wade’s works as our opening exhibit is a great start.”
Texas legend and native Austin artist Bob ‘Daddy-O’ Wade received a BFA from The University of Texas at Austin, and an M.A. from the University of California, Berkley. As a university art professor, Bob was a recipient of three NEA grants and included in biennials in Paris, France; New Orleans, LA; and the Whitney Museums of American Art, New York, NY. Collections include, Chase Manhattan Bank, AT&T, The Menil Collection, the Austin Contemporary, and the Royal Palace Of Monaco.
The 78704 Gallery exhibit honoring Bob’s works presents 40 plus years of his career. The last solo show of his “photoworks” in Austin was 1996, and now the new 78704 gallery on South Congress is mounting an overdue survey of some of “Daddy-O’s Photoworks: 1971-2015.
Bob ‘Daddy-O’ Wade is the mastermind behind the pair of cowboy boots that sit outside San Antonio’s North Star Mall. The boots measure 35 feet tall and 33 feet long. Everything is so much bigger in Texas that even the Guinness Book of World Records has recently taken notice of the ‘Tallest Cowboy Boots in the World’. The famous cowboy boots are featured in the 2016 Guinness Book of World Records.
