At first glance, most people think a seven-foot umbrella simply will not remain upright. But the Pool Buoy is different because it consists of three major components; a float, an arm and a ballast weight, which connect together with a few simple twists. Once assembled, Pool Buoy stays upright even in choppy water. The weight acts as a keel and ballast, dissipating the wave energy, while the foam-filled buoy rides up and down on the waves.
The buoyancy comes from a foam filled disc (which conveniently includes 5 oversized cup holders), while stability is achieved from keeping all the weight collinear to the center of the unit. Below the floating disc, the arm attaches to the ballast weight. This combination creates a moment arm that increases stability by moving the Center of Gravity down below the water line. Pool Buoy is the first and only of its kind.
