Scenario Learning Unveils Training to Help Prevent ‘Active-Shooter’ Events on College Campuses
Cincinnati, Ohio (PRWEB) September 16, 2015 -- With thousands of students returning to college campuses to start a new school year, many parents are left worrying, "How safe are my children?" College administrators and staff must ensure their campuses are as safe as possible.
September is also National Campus Safety Awareness Month and to support higher education administrators and staff in their ongoing efforts to increase safety, Scenario Learning announces two new SafeColleges Online Training System courses: Active Shooter for Administrators and Active Shooter for Staff.
Written by Michael Dorn and Phuong Nguyen, the nation’s leading campus safety experts, the SafeColleges Training administrator and staff courses outline proven methods to reduce the likelihood of dangerous events and improve the odds of survival should an active-shooter event take place.
Although active-shooter events on higher education campuses are rare, administrators and staff must be properly trained for the possibility of violent situations. The SafeColleges Training courses detail evidence-based strategies for dealing with an active shooter on campus -- regardless of the type of weapon he or she uses.
Across the nation, violent attacks on campuses have been successfully averted because of effective prevention strategies. Scenario Learning CEO Brian Taylor says that the higher number of traveling and adjunct faculty means effective, evidence-based training is more important now than ever.
“College campuses are vibrant, busy places with people coming and going all day long, often with unrestricted access,” Taylor said. “Providing expert-authored training for faculty is an effective way to help administrators prevent dangerous events on campus. Faculty are increasingly mobile, so many institutions use online training systems to ensure all staff are prepared if they’re faced with an active shooter.”
The new Active Shooter for Administrators and Active Shooter for Staff courses are available as part of a subscription to the SafeColleges Online Training System. The system is used by thousands of educational institutions to increase safety compliance through effective staff training on important topics, such as Student Mental Health, Campus SaVE Act for Employees – Sexual Violence Awareness, Student Drug & Alcohol Abuse, and more. The SafeColleges System also includes courses for students on the SaVE Act, Alcohol Awareness, and Bystander Intervention, providing administrators with one comprehensive system for all their safety and compliance training needs.
