Colorado State University-Global Campus Ties Academic Curriculum to Workplace KSAs
Greenwood Village, Colo. (PRWEB) September 17, 2015 -- In an effort to further drive the success of its students in achieving their professional goals, Colorado State University-Global Campus (CSUGlobal.edu) has launched its Degree Optimization program. Aligned with its online bachelor’s and online master’s degrees, this innovative new program is designed to help students more effectively express how the knowledge, skills, and abilities they are learning in their courses apply to real-world situations and workplace competencies.
“Our degree programs are designed specifically for working adults,” stated Colorado State University-Global Campus President, Dr. Becky Takeda-Tinker. “Beyond the flexibility of online courses that fit with career and family responsibilities, our focused approach created for adult learners means that our students often begin applying what they learn to their jobs the very next day. The Degree Optimization program helps strengthen the link between academic performance and tangible, shareable, on-the-job relevance that is much needed for today’s modern learners.”
Degree Optimization provides students with Endorsements based on soft skills achievement, and Awards of Completion based on the learning outcomes and demonstrated proficiencies in individual courses and groups of courses that share common skill sets. These awards and endorsements are not degree completion requirements. Instead, they are designed as mile-markers throughout a degree program to give students the capability to communicate what they are learning in the classroom to current and future employers. The university tracks the recognitions that each student receives in the Student Portal so they are able to add these valuable skills to their resumes, LinkedIn profiles, and interview talking points.
Each degree program, at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, has a different set of particular endorsements and awards that have been established in collaboration among CSU-Global degree program coordinators, faculty, and programmatic advisory boards that consist of industry experts and hiring managers. CSU-Global has and will continue to synthesize that input with nationwide industry data and research to ensure that the recognitions are appropriately aligned with specific workplace criteria and needs.
“The value of completing a degree is not to be understated, but students should not have to wait until the very end of their program to be recognized for their hard work and dedication to their professional development,” continued Takeda-Tinker. “By helping our students communicate the knowledge and skills they are gaining in ways that matter to their chosen field, we hope to further facilitate how their academic achievements contribute to their professional success.”
