After my daughter’s death, not only was I a changed person, but everything and everyone around me felt completely different as well.
CALGARY, Alberta –
(PRWEB) September 18, 2015 -- "The reality is that we don't forget, move on and have closure, but rather we honor, remember and incorporate.” – Harriet Schiff
These thoughtful words capture the essence of Lorene Holizki’s journey after being faced with an unimaginable event.
In 2001, Holizki’s 16-year-old daughter, Kalei was killed instantly in head-on collision. Holizki spent the next 14 years battling emotions that threatened to crush her from the inside out.
“After my daughter’s death, not only was I a changed person, but everything and everyone around me felt completely different as well,” Holizki said. “To survive the onslaught of this grief driven existence, I instinctively started analyzing my new world. I thought if I could study and understand death and grief, I could find a way to make the pain manageable.
Holizki journaled her findings in the form of stories she shared with Kalei’s friends. She used this text to publish “Forever Kalei’s Mom”, a memoir commemorating the pair’s relationship, exploring the crushing reality of daily life after tragedy and the examination of a world where bereavement and the future cohabitate.
Holizki hopes that her book will help give those who are forced to live with an unthinkable occurrence the courage to share their grief openly and honestly with those around them.
