Both London and Ireland draw lots of visitors. We wanted to take people deeper into the culture and local life, giving them the freedom to explore but with all the logistical support and deep knowledge of our local hosts.

This fall, Untours welcomes their first guests on their new Untours in London and Ireland. “Our clients have been asking for Untours in the British Isles for years,” explains Untours president Brian Taussig-Lux. “We are excited to launch these two new programs.”
Early guests are just returning from Kenmare, Ireland, on the the edge of the Ring of Kerry. Untours apartments are located in this small town and its surrounding hills. The package includes a local rental car, transfer assistance, and on-site support from a local staff member.
“Neil is top notch,” says Dodge Amaral, Ireland Untour coordinator. “He helps our guests get comfortable driving, he orients them to the local sights, and he is full of excellent suggestions for trips and sightseeing. He has helpful specifics for Killarney National Park, the Ring of Kerry drive, and the Dingle Peninsula.”
“We made a point of finding apartments in the center of town to make it possible for our guests to do their shopping and pub visits without driving,” Amaral adds. “We can even arrange for a ‘car-free’ option for those who are not able or not comfortable driving themselves.”
The London Untour also launches this fall. Untours apartments are central and comfortable, and the local Untours staff person is full of advice on how best to see London and take in its many offerings. He will help guests navigate the city’s transit as well as London’s theater, museum, and restaurant scenes.
“Our on-site support in London and Ireland adds so much to the experience of each place,” says Taussig-Lux, who helped set up the programs. “Beyond the beautiful apartments we have found, we are offering guests excellent care from the moment they land in country.” Cell phones are included in both locations, so guests can reach staff easily.
Though London and south west Ireland are both popular destinations for Americans, Untour staff have sought out home bases that are at once convenient for sightseeing and decidedly local and authentic. “In Ireland we shied away from Killarney because of its heavy tourist presence,” explains Taussig-Lux. “The charming town of Kenmare was a better fit for the the type of cultural exchange our guests favor, and it is closer to the Ring of Kerry.”
“We felt it was important to offer an authentic experience in each of these places. Both London and Ireland draw lots of visitors and tour groups,” explains Taussig-Lux. “We wanted to take people deeper into the culture and local life, giving them the freedom to explore on their own but with all the logistical support and deep knowledge our locals hosts provide. This fills the niche between bus tour and on-your-own apartment rental. That’s the essence of an Untour.”
Untours offers similar programs in mainland Europe and has been selling apartment-based, cultural immersion vacations since 1975. See http://www.untours.com for full offerings.
