Alaska Forget Me Not Coalition to Host Hiring Fair for Transitioning Service Members
Fairbanks, AK (PRWEB) September 22, 2015 -- The “Alaska Forget Me Not Coalition,” in partnership with the Alaska National Guard and Alaska Department of Labor, invites all job-seeking Service members, Guard and Reserve members, Military Spouses and Veterans to a Hiring Fair, scheduled for Friday, September 25 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m at the Fairbanks National Guard Armory. Military-friendly employers will be on hand to review resumes, highlight current job openings and conduct informal interviews.
Fairbanks and the surrounding area have a great responsibility to the unemployed. In August 2015, Fairbanks North Star Borough reported a 4.5% unemployment rate, and even more so, SE Fairbanks Census Area stood at 9.0%. The Military Hiring Fair will feature more than a dozen local and national employers, all with current job openings throughout the state, and these employers understand that Veterans bring valuable skills, a strong work ethic and experience from their Military service to the Alaskan workforce. Robyn Lumb, the Human Resources Business Partner with Verizon said, “Employers find that candidates with a Military background bring a strong sense of leadership, mentorship and collaboration with others. These traits are essential to us as an employer.” Lumb also mentioned, that in her conversations with other Alaskan employers, her sentiments are repeated by many.
Participating employers include Fairbanks North Star Borough School District, Fairbanks Airport Police and Fire Department, Crowley Marine Services, URS, Walmart, Verizon and TDL Staffing. In addition to employers, Army OneSource and Military OneSource will be on hand to provide employment and financial readiness resources for Service members, their Families and Veterans. Fair organizers highly recommend that attendees bring updated copies of their resume for employers and be prepared for informal interviews on site.
