This formulation has been designed specifically to help fight the spread of Lyme Disease, a tick-born bacterial infection that can be transmitted to humans and pets by infected ticks.

In response to heightened concerns with Lyme Disease, Mosquito Shield of Southeastern PA is introducing a special Tick Shield program for fall tick control to residents of the Philadelphia region.

“Though May, June and July are peak months for potentially dangerous nymphal tick activity, the fall season also gives rise for caution, as October and November are when the adult black-legged (or deer) ticks emerge” said Rick Brogan, owner of Mosquito Shield. “These ticks are larger and easier to detect, but at the same time tend to have higher infection rates because they have had a longer opportunity to become infected during their larval and nymphal life stages.”

Trained technicians target the areas of the property where the tick threat is the highest and use a proprietary “Tick Shield” formulation. This formulation has been designed specifically to help fight the spread of Lyme Disease, a tick-born bacterial infection that can be transmitted to humans and pets by infected ticks.

Full season Mosquito Shield customers already have the opportunity to add Tick Shield to their service, but this is the first time the program will be offered as a stand-alone service for the fall.

“Everyone’s needs are different”, said Brogan. “We wanted to give folks who might be away for the summer the opportunity for more peace of mind while the kids are out playing in the leaves or they are doing yard work.”

Pennsylvania has reported the most cases of Lyme disease in the nation for the last five years and a recent study by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection published in the Journal of Medical Entomology on April 14 revealed a Lyme disease risk in all 67 counties in Pennsylvania.
