The Security Industry Association (SIA) will present the Jay Hauhn Excellence in Partnerships Award to Ray Coulombe of SecuritySpecifiers at SIA Honors Night on Nov. 18, 2015, at The Current at Chelsea Piers in New York City, the association announced today.
Mr. Coulombe will receive the award for his work in increasing collaboration between SIA and the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI).
“Ray Coulombe is very deserving of this recognition,” said SIA CEO Don Erickson. “Ray was an incredible volunteer and leader on SIA’s successful project to update Division 28 of the Construction Specifications Institute MasterFormat, which was a project that involved dozens of volunteers, many of whom participated at Ray’s personal invitation. Ray’s efforts through this project also established a partnership with CSI itself.”
“I am quite honored to be selected by SIA to receive this year’s Hauhn award,” said Mr. Coulombe. “My successful interaction with the Construction Specifications Institute, in large part, was enabled by the willingness of SIA to sponsor the effort to update CSI’s MasterFormat, the standard for organizing construction specifications in North America. SIA’s participation, and that of the many volunteers from all quarters of our industry, truly contributed to a comprehensive set of recommendations that will ultimately lead to better specifications for projects involving security and life safety.”
Mr. Coulombe is the founder and managing director of SecuritySpecifiers and RepsForSecurity. Formerly, he was chief operating officer and co-founder of SyPixx Networks, which was acquired in 2006 by Cisco, and he has played a significant role in the development of numerous other early-stage companies in the industry.
In addition to initiating the effort through SIA to update CSI’s MasterFormat Electronic Safety and Security Division (Division 28), Mr. Coulombe founded and chaired SIA’s Standards Subcommittee on Simple Network Management Protocol and served as a member of the Body of Knowledge committee for SIA’s Certified Security Project Manager (CSPM®) program.
The Jay Hauhn Excellence in Partnerships Award is named in honor of Jay Hauhn. As previous SIA Chairman of the Board, Hauhn demonstrated a steadfast commitment to fostering collaboration among industry trade associations and advancing the interests of their collective memberships and the entire security industry.
The Hauhn Award is presented each year to an individual with a SIA member company who has taken specific action(s) to foster collaboration between SIA and industry/practitioner organizations consistent with SIA’s overall strategic priorities. The award will recognize individual contributions to increasing SIA member value through partnerships. These actions could include activities that lead to the pursuit of common public policy priorities, active involvement in the development of SIA Standards proposals, leveraging SIA Education expertise at partner organization education conferences and jointly-branded online education, and SIA membership growth.
