We know that water immersion is beneficial for the overall health of every individual, for uniting families, and building communities. It is also extremely beneficial for physical activity, and provides an alternative medium of exercise to those that are unable to participate in land-based activities. Now, Water Immersion Works: Research-Based Health Benefits of Aquatic Immersion and Activity can provide aquatic facilities, trainers, and community advocates with a resource to help promote, advance, and creatively support and fund water immersion initiatives and infrastructure.

The National Swimming Pool Foundation® (NSPF®), in addition to the esteemed aquatic scholar contributors, participated in the development of this report to obtain and publish meaningful research. Water Immersion Works documents the benefits of water immersion and activity across a variety of topics including increasing blood flow to the brain, and promoting cardiovascular, nervous system, and overall health.

Inés Palacios, Ph.D., Director of Recreation for PlayCore states, "We were excited to be a catalyst in bringing this research together, and look forward to distributing this publication at the World Aquatic Health™ Conference in Scottsdale, AZ Oct 7-9, as well as through our Center for Professional Development, our partnership with NSPF, and our aquatic brands and colleagues."

The publication features 13 vignettes, written by noted-aquatic scholars, each designed to define and document key research findings in successful water immersion initiatives. "Only through awareness of the unique benefits of water can we hope to increase opportunities for healthy behavior, especially among the populations where water offers the most meaningful opportunities for active engagement,” added NSPF’s CEO, Thomas Lachocki, Ph.D. “This resource will help other communities to approach and develop meaningful water immersion programs, build social capital, and enrich aquatic recreation programming and facilities for their members."
