Louisville Innovation Summit Brings Together 500 Executives and Entrepreneurs Focused on the Future of Aging Care, Oct 14-15

The Louisville Innovation Summit will feature a keynote address from Aneesh Chopra, the first Chief Technology Officer of the U.S. and assistant to President Obama who helped launch Startup America, among many other initiatives. Chopra is currently a leader at Hunch Analytics, a “hatchery” incubating ideas that improve the productivity of health and education markets, including NavHealth, an open data intelligence service. Chopra’s presentation will be a conversation with Dr. Jordan Shlain, primary care physician, digital health entrepreneur and respected writer and thought leader in national health policy.
Paul Bennett of IDEO will also give a keynote address on The Powerful Now. IDEO is a world renowned design and innovation firm dedicated to uncovering latent needs, behaviors and desires. Paul Bennett, as Chief Creative Officer, is at the helm of many of these new innovations. One such vision is The Powerful Now (http://thepowerfulnow.com/), a collaboration led by Kyu, SYPartners and IDEO, which is fueling the growing global movement around positive aging for all. An additional 70+ visionary speakers will address a range of topics around aging care. One topic is a focus on space medicine solving problems for the aging. Speakers on the Aging Innovations in Space panel will join moderator Marc Rothman, Senior Chief Medical Officer at Kindred Healthcare, Inc., to discuss aging research and how the unique environment of microgravity can speed advancements in care delivery. Panelists include Michael Roberts, senior research scientist at the Center for the Advancement of Science in Space, Inc. (CASIS), the sole manager of the International Space Station U.S. National Laboratory, and Kris Kimel of Kentucky Science and Technology Corporation (KSTC) which focuses on ambitious and diverse initiatives in science, technology, entrepreneurship and disruptive innovation.
In the Compassion as Innovation in Healthcare Delivery session, Dr. James Doty of Stanford University will join Louisville’s own VP of Spirituality at Signature HealthCARE, LLC, Dianne Timmering, and Dr. Joseph D'Ambrosio of the Institute for Sustainable Health & Optimal Aging at the University of Louisville School of Medicine. Dr. Doty, as founder and director of Stanford’s Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education, is a worldwide thought-leader and speaker on the importance of compassion in giving meaning to life and improving mental and physical health.
Louisville has become not only a center of aging care, but of compassionate healthcare for older people. The city has a Compassion Initiative spearheaded by Signature HealthCARE, a post-acute and long-term care company which includes one of the largest for-profit, multi-faith Departments of Spirituality in the nation, created by Timmering, along with Signature CEO Joe Steier. The speakers at this session will discuss the spiritual movement of hope in medicine as a core competency in the care delivery system.
