GARDENA, Calif. (PRWEB) October 01, 2015
Iconic mattress retailer Sit ‘n Sleep announced today that it teamed with Tempur-Pedic®, the most highly recommended bed in America, to honor Southern California’s firefighters during National Fire Prevention Week, October 4-10. Sit ‘n Sleep and Tempur-Pedic® are donating over 250 mattresses to four fire stations in Southern California. Mattresses are often the last thing that gets replaced at Fire Stations, because of the high cost and budget restrictions. However, a good night’s sleep is essential for these brave firefighters so they can continue to do their job safely.
Sit ‘n Sleep trucks will be delivering the mattresses to each department and will remove the station’s old mattresses for recycling during a community celebration event. Firefighters and first responders will be on site to help unload the beds into the station’s sleeping quarters. The Southern California fire departments that will receive the mattresses include Los Angeles Fire Department, Brea Fire Department, Pasadena Fire Department, and Rancho Mirage Fire Department.
*NOTE: Locations and times of each mattress delivery event can be found at the end of the press release.
Among the event attendees include 12 firefighters who were part of the Orange County Strike Team that fought the fires in Northern California.
“We’re thrilled to provide comfortable, supportive beds to the local firefighters who put their lives on the line everyday to protect us,” said Sit ‘n Sleep CEO Larry Miller. “We hope that the donation brings awareness to National Fire Prevention Week and provides plenty of extra comfort to the brave men and women who work tirelessly for their communities. We know that these firefighters will be sleeping better after this week’s donations.”
Getting a good night’s sleep is essential in maintaining the schedule and handling the stress firefighters endure to ensure the safety of their communities. Despite the health risks associated with a lack of sleep, many departments do not have the budget to replace the old, worn out mattresses used in their stations. Many station’s mattresses are over a decade old, leaving little support for their hardworking firefighters.
“We are so grateful to Sit ‘n Sleep and Tempur-Pedic® for this generous donation and for bringing attention to our amazing dedicated firefighters,” said Deputy Chief, Daren M. Palacios, Los Angeles Fire Department Commander of Operations South Bureau. “The high quality of these mattresses will bring much needed relief and comfort to our department’s staff, who often rely on just a few hours of sleep. Our firefighters have a demanding job and will be thrilled to sleep on these fantastic beds.”
For over 35 years Sit ‘n Sleep has been dedicated to helping local charities in Southern California including Habitat for Humanity, Make a Wish, PADRES Contra El Cancer, Jenesse Center, People Assisting the Homeless (PATH) City of Hope and Jewish Vocational Services, to name a few. Two years ago Sit ‘n Sleep and Tempur-Pedic donated 140 mattresses to fire departments in Montecito, West Hollywood, Redlands, and Rancho Mirage. Due to the overwhelming response from our first responders, both companies decided to increase the donation so they could positively impact more firefighters this year.
“We can’t think of more deserving recipients than our local fire heroes,” says Daliah Santana, Regional Sales Director, Southern California, Tempur-Pedic North America, LLC. “We’re honored to be able to show our gratitude to our firefighters during this year’s National Fire Prevention Week, and it is our goal that these mattresses will help to relieve the strain brought on by the long days and overnight hours they regularly face. We also hope that each night they go to sleep on one of these mattresses, they feel the support and appreciation of the community that they so bravely serve.”
