Caltech Opens Nominations for Resonate Awards for Outstanding Contributions to the Science and Technology of Sustainability and Renewable Energy

Caltech’s Resnick Sustainability Institute has announced that nominations are open for the 2016 Resonate Awards (http://resnick.caltech.edu/awards-nomination.php). The awards bring attention to up-and-coming innovators who are making outstanding contributions to renewable energy or sustainability-related science and technology. Nominees can be under the age of 40 from anywhere around the world.

Caltech’s Resnick Sustainability Institute has announced that nominations are open for the 2016 Resonate Awards (http://resnick.caltech.edu/awards-nomination.php). The awards bring attention to up-and-coming innovators who are making outstanding contributions to renewable energy or sustainability-related science and technology. Nominees can be under the age of 40 from anywhere around the world.

In the past two years, winners have included innovators with breakthroughs in energy storage, financing for sustainability-focused ventures, power grid modernization and development of chemical processes for alternative energy, and a variety of carbon-reduction solutions.

“Young scientists are critical to the future of the planet,” said Jonas C. Peters, Director, Resnick Sustainability Institute and Bren Professor of Chemistry in the Division of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at the California Institute of Technology. “This award is designed to encourage outstanding and breakthrough thinking that will change the future.”

The 2015 Resonate winners were presented their Awards and participated on a panel at the Aspen Ideas Festival this summer. Winners include scientists from Aalto University, Finland; Research Institute of Electrochemical Energy / AIST, Japan; University of Texas at Austin, Stanford University, and ETA Devices (which was founded by an MIT professor). Several of the other honorees have founded and are working with start-up companies based on their breakthroughs.
The 2016 Resonate Award nominations are open through early November. After that, the entrants will be judged by an advisory panel of varied experts and visionaries with the experience to offer insights about how the ideas may have important, long term impact.

“We are committed to encouraging up-and-coming scientists to think creatively to solve the momentous challenges faced by our environment and planet,” said Dr. Harry Atwater, Howard Hughes Professor of Applied Physics and Materials Science California Institute of Technology, founder of the awards and chair of the Resonate 2016 selection committee.
