Global Initiatives Week: November 6 – 13, 2015
La Crosse, WI (PRWEB) September 30, 2015 -- The La Crosse Area Convention & Visitors Bureau is pleased to announce the third annual Global Initiatives Week, showcasing the community’s cultural value and highlighting the economic and social impact of the Coulee Region’s global connections through food, dance, art, film, and speakers.
Global Initiatives Week was created to incite conversation, contribute to global awareness, and inspire local action. Organizers hope the week inspires attendees to volunteer with local organizations engaged in global work, develop cultural competence, and discover new ways to strengthen our region through global connections.
The week kicks off with a Global Celebration sponsored by the La Crosse Community Foundation Global Awareness Fund, held at the Radisson Hotel in downtown La Crosse, and wraps up with a half-day conference promoting diversity in the workplace held by the La Crosse Area Diversity Council.
New this year, a number of local restaurants and businesses plan to offer discounts to patrons who mention “Global Initiatives Week.” Stop in at Dublin Square, Gracie’s, Grand Bluff Running, Hmong Golden Eggrolls, Indochinese Grocery Store, New Taste of India, and more to experience our region’s global connections through food and merchandise sales! Or, sign up for the “Global Initiatives Week Challenge” sponsored by Gundersen Global Partners to receive daily emails that will increase your awareness of global issues, challenge you to become involved, and offer a chance to win prizes.
More than 20 events are scheduled throughout the week. Participate in free screenings of award-winning films, including the documentaries Not My Life and Business of Being Born, and attend the 5th Biennial UW-La Crosse United Nations Association Film Festival. Additionally, Winona, Minnesota’s, annual Frozen River Film Festival will hold a featured screening of Miss Tibet, in partnership with the Pump House. Other Global Initiatives Week events include a Global Friendships Celebration at the La Crosse Public Library, study abroad presentations at UW-La Crosse, and a special presentation by spoken word artist Carlos Andres Gomez at Viterbo University.
