GCG℠ Diversity & Inclusion VP Promotes Mentoring
Lake Success, NY (PRWEB) October 05, 2015 -- Garden City Group℠, LLC (GCG), a leading provider of legal administration services, announces that Shandarese Garr, vice president of Diversity & Inclusion, presented the keynote address at the Northern Connecticut Black Nurses Association’s (NCBNA) Annual Scholarship Luncheon on Sept. 19, 2015. A long-time advocate of workplace mentorship, Garr shared her perspective as both a mentor and mentee during her 25-year career at GCG, while highlighting the ways mentoring contributes to the long-term success of companies, organizations and communities.
“Ms. Garr’s mentorship expertise aligns with the focus of the mentoring programs we provide for high school and college nursing students,” said NCBNA Vice President Florence Johnson. “We appreciate the opportunity to learn from her real-life experience at Garden City Group, and to further our dialogue to encourage our members’ involvement in workplace and community mentorship initiatives.”
NCBNA’s mission is to provide a forum to facilitate the collective action by black nurses to advocate for, and educate about, the health care needs of underrepresented populations; and to implement strategies that reduce health disparities and inequities. NCBNA is part of the National Black Nurses Association, which was founded in 1971 and represents 150,000 African American registered, student and retired nursing professionals in the United States, Eastern Caribbean, and Africa; and has 79 chartered chapters in 34 states.
“I am quite honored to share my experience with NCBNA, and am pleased to collaborate with such an inspiring group of professionals,” said Garr. “GCG’s support and encouragement of mentorship has helped me and so many others reach our potential, and I am dedicated to paying that forward so that our companies and communities can all benefit.”
Garr was profiled in the March/April 2015 issue of Inspirational Woman Magazine in an article that provides an in-depth look at the impact mentoring has had on her career, and the ways in which mentoring contributes to the overall success of GCG. As the head of GCG’s Diversity & Inclusion program, she is responsible for the development and implementation of programs to promote the importance of diversity, inclusion, cultural awareness, mentorship and community involvement.
