Global partners assemble in Jamaica at the new Moon Palace Jamaica Grande

Top destination wedding experts announced the company’s record market growth for 2015 and unprecedented numbers expected in 2016, at the 6th Annual Destination Wedding Travel Group Symposium, held from September 24 to September 27 at the Moon Palace Jamaica Grande.

Nearly 350 were in attendance, making this the largest conference to date for the group. Represented regions included the US, Canada, the Caribbean, Mexico, Central America and Great Britain. Guests were comprised of Certified Destination Wedding Specialists, executives from preferred hotel partners, top tour operators, and tourism boards, and corporate staff from DWTG and its partner company in the Celebration Travel Group, Great Britain- based Perfect Weddings Abroad.

Destination Weddings Travel Group President and CEO Richard Calvert emphasized the drive for innovation, a strategy that has earned the group global recognition this year.

“Technological advances enable us to further tailor the customer experience across multiple channels,” presented Calvert. “Now is the time to explore these opportunities - from personalized marketing messages and tailored special offers to diverse product offerings and improvements in ongoing customer service.”

Calvert touched upon the group’s recent partnership with global customer review platform Feefo, a move that allows Destination Weddings Travel Group to lead the industry in a new level of transparency and service ratings.

The symposium was the first event for the newly opened Moon Palace Jamaica Grande, located at the head of Ocho Rios Bay. The property, a part of the Palace Resorts brand, recently underwent a multimillion-dollar renovation.

“We were honored to host this year’s event for our long-time partner Destination Weddings Travel Group,” says Kathy Halpern, Vice-President of Sales and Marketing at Palace Resorts. “The property is positioned to carry on Palace Resorts’ sterling reputation, and this was the perfect opportunity to showcase our offerings and capabilities.”

This was also the first Symposium in Jamaica, and the group enjoyed a number of excursions during their time on the island.

“The art of hospitality is alive and well here, and we were delighted to invite our peers and colleagues to share in the Jamaican experience,” adds Donald Dawson, Deputy Director of Tourism with the Jamaica Tourism Board. “Jamaica is a country that begs to be explored, and we were able to integrate a number of activities into their time here, including a Bob Marley inspired tour, horseback riding on the beach, zip lining, bobsledding and catamaran cruising.”

The nearly weeklong event included a FAM trip for 100+ attendees to the Iberostar Grand Rose Hall as well as site visits to Royalton White Sands Montego Bay, RIU Ocho Rios, and Jewel Dunns River Resort. The conference also included an industry trade show and entertainment headlined by the legendary Lisa Lisa, Illusionist Ryan Oakes and esteemed local musicians and performers.

Philanthropy was also on the agenda, with Destination Weddings Travel Group raising money for The Animal House Jamaica, which rescues and shelters injured, neglected and abandoned animals. The group visited the shelter during their stay, providing provisions and funds, which may be allocated to build out more capabilities to help additional animals in need.

During the event, Calvert announced that the 7th Annual Destination Weddings Travel Group Symposium is set for the fall of 2016 at the Generations Riviera Maya by Karisma Hotels & Resorts.
